Personal Statement
Six generations of my family
have been blessed to live in Oxford. My great grandparents built their home on North Lamar (then North Street) and moved to town in 1900. My roots were firmly planted in Ward 1. My great grandfather was a merchant and served as a District Judge. My grandfather served as U.S. attorney and also practiced law with Will Hickman. My mother graduated from University High School. My parents met and married at First Presbyterian Church Oxford.
Growing up, I spent several weeks a year here visiting my grandmother, Bessie Sumners. Oxford has been a haven for me for my entire life.
I met my wife, Cherri, at Ole Miss. When our family moved here it felt like we were coming home. Our sons graduated from Oxford High School and Ole Miss and now make Oxford their family homes. Our oldest granddaughter has also graduated from Oxford High School and currently attends Ole Miss.
The city of Oxford, the state of Mississippi and the osteopathic medical profession have given me so much and I have tried to give back and pay it forward. For 35 years I took care of you and your families in my medical office; I will continue to take care of you and your families as your alderman. Together we thrive!

Business Leader
As a small business owner in Oxford, Mississippi, I can attest that small businesses are the backbone of our vibrant community. However, we have also been fortunate to attract and support a diverse range of industries, both large and small, that contribute to the overall economic vitality of our city.
For over 30 years, the Oxford-Lafayette County Economic Development Foundation (EDF) has played a crucial role in supporting local businesses and industries, as well as recruiting new companies to the area. As a long-time member of the EDF, serving for over two decades and currently as the vice chair, I have had the privilege of witnessing firsthand the impact of this collaborative effort.
In addition to supporting existing businesses, the EDF also collaborates closely with our educational institutions, including the University of Mississippi, to develop workforce training programs that ensure our local talent pool is equipped to meet the needs of both established and emerging industries. As we continue to grow and evolve, it is essential that we maintain the collaborative spirit that has been the hallmark of Oxford’s business community.

My contributions extend beyond the AOA to the Federation of State Medical Boards and other advisory groups, where I have championed the importance of ongoing professional development and competency among medical practitioners.
Additionally, my leadership has had a profound impact on medical education, as I have served as a Clinical Instructor and Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at various institutions.
Beyond the realm of Osteopathic medicine, I have demonstrated a passion for community service and have contributed to the advancement of healthcare infrastructure and access within my local community and state.
